  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 8 flour tortillas
  • 1 cup shredded red cabbage
  • 1/4 cup cilantro leaves
  • 2 limes

Spicy Cream Sauce

  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp mayo
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • 1 tsp sriracha sauce
  • 1/4 tsp paprika

Instructions

  • Rinse the tilapia fillets and pat them dry with a paper towel.
  • In a small bowl, combine the chili powder, cumin powder, garlic powder
  • Rub the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the tilapia fillets.
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Cook the seasoned tilapia fillets for about 3-4 minutes per side until cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
  • Remove the cooked tilapia fillets from the skillet and let them cool slightly. Then, break them into smaller pieces.

Making the Cream Sauce

  • In a small bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, lime juice, sriracha sauce, paprika
  • Stir well until all the ingredients are mixed and taste test
  • Place the sauce in the refrigerator to chill while you assemble the tacos.

Assembling Tacos

  • Warm the flour tortillas in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side
  • Add tilapia to tortilla, then top with cabbage, cilantro, and cream sauce and squeeze with a lime wedge

Notes

  • Season the tilapia generously: Make sure to coat the tilapia fillets with the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper mixture, ensuring that each piece is well-seasoned for maximum flavor.
  • Adjust the spice level: If you prefer milder tacos, reduce the amount of chili powder or omit it altogether. On the other hand, if you love the heat, feel free to increase the amount or add a pinch of cayenne pepper for an extra kick.
  • Use fresh ingredients: Whenever possible, opt for fresh cilantro, lime, and cabbage to enhance the vibrant flavors of the tacos. Fresh ingredients contribute to the overall taste and presentation of the dish.
  • Prep the toppings ahead of time: To make serving the tacos a breeze, prepare the toppings such as shredded red cabbage, chopped cilantro, and lime wedges in advance. This will save you time and allow you to enjoy the meal with minimal effort.
  • Warm the tortillas properly: To achieve pliable and warm tortillas, heat them briefly on a dry skillet or griddle over medium heat. This step will make them more flexible and enhance their texture.
  • Customize with additional toppings: Feel free to get creative and add your favorite toppings to the tacos. Sliced avocado, diced tomatoes, or a sprinkle of crumbled cheese can take the flavor profile to the next level.
  • Double up the recipe for larger gatherings: If you're hosting a crowd, consider doubling the recipe to ensure everyone gets their fill. The spicy tilapia tacos are sure to be a hit, so it's better to have extra!
  • Serve with a squeeze of lime: Just before serving, squeeze fresh lime juice over the assembled tacos to add a burst of tangy citrus flavor. This step elevates the taste and freshness of the dish.
