Black Bean Dip

Sharing is caring!

This simple black bean dip requires minimal ingredients and can be thrown together in less than 10 minutes. Perfect for your next get together or just an afternoon snack.

Why Black Beans and not Pinto?

Even though both beans pack a lot of fiber and protein, black beans are lower in carbs and fat. They are also slightly less in calories, which I will take whatever I can get to cutting calories.

Is This Dip Served Cold or Hot?

This dip is meant to be served cold or at room temperature. This recipe is much like the Frito’s bean dip, but with black beans.

After preparing the dip I like to transfer it to a serving bowl, cover and let it sit in the refrigerator for about an hour before serving. Then it is good to sit out for the length of your party or get together.

This dip will last 2-3 days in the refrigerator if probably sealed in an air tight container.

Ingredients for Black Bean Dip

  • Refried Black Beans– There are lots of different brands out there so choose whichever you like
  • Jalapenos and Brine– pickled jalapenos and the liquid they sit in is a must for this recipe. It doesn’t make it spicy, but gives it a nice flavor
  • Spices– garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, paprika, salt, and sugar

Making the Dip

Start by adding the jalapenos to a food processor (Photo 1) and next add the refried black beans (Photo 2) and then the jalapeno brine (Photo 3)

Add the garlic powder (Photo 4) paprika (Photo 5) and the onion powder (Photo 6)

Next add the cayenne pepper (Photo 7) the sugar (Photo 8) and then the salt (Photo 9). Put the lid on the food processor (Photo 10) and start mixing it together (Photo 11) I alternate between the blend and grind button. This just spins the blade in opposite directions

Take the lid off and scrap down the sides (Photo 12) and put the lid back on and mix again. I repeat the above step twice until all blended together.

Then transfer to the dish you are serving it in and cover and refrigerate for about an hour before serving.

Tips and Tricks

  • You have to use pickled jalapenos for this recipe because the jalapeno brine is an important ingredient. This isn’t spicy, but you can add extra jalapenos if you want to add a little more spice
  • Using a food processor makes this recipe so quick to make. If you don’t have one use a blender
  • Be sure and stop the mixing processes to scrape down the side of the bow of the food processor. You want to make sure everything gets blended together.
  • Refrigerate for about an hour before serving. It makes it so much better.
  • Serve with tortilla chips, corn chips or even use as a spread.
