Discover this Gourmet Fresh Spinach and Artichoke Dip – a creamy, rich, crowd-pleaser made with fresh ingredients.

Why this Recipe is the Best!

  • Fresh Ingredients: Unlike many recipes that use frozen spinach, this dip is made with fresh spinach, adding a level of brightness and texture that truly makes a difference in the overall flavor profile. The artichokes are also coarsely chopped, providing a pleasant chunkiness and bite that adds to the gourmet feel.
  • Gruyère Cheese: While most spinach and artichoke dips use a standard mix of cream cheese, mozzarella, and perhaps some Parmesan, our recipe introduces Gruyère cheese. This Swiss cheese brings a complex, nutty flavor that elevates the dish to a gourmet level.
  • Balance of Flavors and Textures: This dip has been carefully designed to offer a perfect balance between creamy, cheesy, and tangy, with a subtle heat from the optional crushed red pepper flakes. The consistency is rich and satisfying, without being overly heavy, making every bite an indulgence that’s still light enough to keep you dipping for more.
Can I freeze leftover dip?

You can, but the quality might not be as good once thawed. The mayo and sour cream in the dip can turn watery when they thaw.

How long will it last in the refrigerator?

he dip will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. After that, it might start to separate and the texture could become a bit off.

How do you make the dip in the slow cooker?

You can easily make this recipe in the slow cooker. Simply put all the ingredients in the slow cooker and stir until they are combined. Then, cook on low for 2-4 hours, stirring occasionally.

Ingredients for Gourmet Fresh Spinach and Artichoke Dip

  • Fresh Spinach: Look for spinach leaves that are vibrant in color without any signs of wilting or yellowing. They should feel crisp and not slimy.
  • Artichoke Hearts: You can use canned artichoke hearts for convenience. Just make sure to drain them well before chopping. If you’re using fresh artichokes, look for ones that are heavy for their size with tightly packed leaves.
  • Onion: Go for a medium-sized onion that feels heavy for its size. The skin should be shiny and tight.
  • Garlic: Pick bulbs that are plump and have unbroken skin. Avoid any that have visible mold or sprouts.
  • Olive Oil: A good quality extra virgin olive oil will give your dip a nice depth of flavor. The oil should have a fresh, fruity smell.
  • Cream Cheese, Sour Cream, and Mayonnaise: These form the creamy base of your dip. Opt for full-fat versions for the richest flavor and creamiest texture.
  • Parmesan and Gruyère Cheese: These cheeses provide a fantastic flavor combination. Look for freshly grated Parmesan as it will melt better than the pre-packaged variety. As for Gruyère, opt for a high-quality brand with a rich, nutty flavor.
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes: This is optional but if you like a little heat in your dip, go for it! Make sure they have a vibrant red color, which indicates their freshness and potency.
  • Mozzarella Cheese: This is for topping your dip before baking. Fresh mozzarella cheese will give you a beautiful, bubbly, and golden top when baked.

  • Classic Tortilla Chips: Tried and true, tortilla chips are a staple companion to any dip, and they are no exception for this one. Their slight saltiness and crunch are a match made in heaven with our dip.
  • Fresh Vegetable Sticks: If you’re looking for a lighter, healthier option, go for crisp, fresh veggies like carrot, celery, bell pepper, or cucumber sticks. They provide a refreshing contrast to the dip.
  • Pita Chips: A little thicker than tortilla chips, pita chips hold up well to the dip. Plus, their slight tanginess can complement the flavors in the dip beautifully.
  • Grilled Flatbread: Imagine the smoky flavor of slightly charred flatbread meeting our creamy, cheesy dip. Sounds mouthwatering, right?
  • Pretzel Sticks: For a fun twist, pretzel sticks can bring a delightful salty crunch that beautifully contrasts the creaminess of the dip.

Tips for this Dip

  • Cheese Variations: While Parmesan and Gruyère are recommended, feel free to play around with other types of cheese. Monterey Jack or white cheddar could be great alternatives for a different flavor profile.
  • Go Dairy-Free: If you’re dairy-intolerant or vegan, you can swap the cream cheese, sour cream, and mayo for dairy-free alternatives. There are some fantastic vegan cheeses out there too!
  • Add Protein: Want to make your dip a bit heartier? Consider adding some cooked, shredded chicken or cooked, crumbled bacon.
  • Heat Things Up: If you’re a fan of spicy foods, feel free to add more crushed red pepper flakes or even some diced jalapeños for an extra kick.
  • Fresh vs. Frozen Spinach: This recipe calls for fresh spinach, but if you’re in a pinch, frozen spinach can work too. Just make sure to thoroughly thaw and drain it to avoid adding extra moisture to your dip.
  • Serving Style: This dip is fantastic served hot from the oven, but if you’re hosting a party, consider keeping it warm in a small slow cooker or fondue pot so it stays melty and delicious throughout the event.
